Wrestling Music – Reflecting the Wrestlers' Characters

Music is widely used in professional wrestling, where it serves a number of purposes. The most commonly used music is the entrance theme – a song or a piece of instrumental music that plays as a wrestler comes to the ring. When a match is over, the entrance theme of the winner is usually played as the wrestlers exit the ring. Entrance themes serve to alert the viewers to the arrival of a wrestler, and to add to anticipation.

Entrance themes are frequently tailored to the particular wrestler's character. Current entrance themes are typically Rock, or Rap or R&B (especially for the Divas).

Entrance themes are frequently composed by the promotion for which the wrestlers perform in order to do without paying royalties. A promotion may also buy music from production libraries, as it is usually less expensive than the royalties of commercial music, or use public domain music that is available for free. Lucha Libre promotions are especially popular songs, due to less restrictive copyright laws in Mexico.
