The first Diva in professional wrestling history was Tammy Lynn Sytch, better known as "Sunny". She was a manager for many wrestlers in the WWF. Sunny brought sexuality to the position that was new to the business.
After Sytch left the business, Rena Mero, better known as "Sable", came to change her. She became a manager of her husband, Marc Mero, and quickly helped him gain popularity. This fact lead to the hiring of more female performers by the promotion. Rena Mero was actually the first female to regard herself as a "Diva", and the term was accepted immediately.
The year 2000 was marked by the appearance of Amy Dumas, also known as Lita. She launched a higher standard competition at the WWF Women's Division, as she took more risk taking moves than her predecessors, such as moonsaults and hurricanranas.
Virtually at the same time, Trish Status entered the WWF arena. She began as a valet, and has brought pure sexuality to the ring. Later she was trained to enhance her skills, and eventually won the Women's Title.
Trish Stratus and Amy Dumas are considered to be the women who have changed the face of female wrestling, as they brought sexuality and skills to the ring and succeeded in keeping audience entertained.
After that, there came a lot of new Divas, among them there are famous Lita, Torrie Wilson, Terri Runnels, Christy Hemme, Miss Jackie, and many other young divas.
